Get Moving: The Perfect Family Workout Approach

Whether you want to lose weight, stay in shape, get the whole family on board with fitness or all of the above, all you need is some tenacity, the right approach and the following tips, courtesy of Bloomfield Gymnastics.

Why You Need Exercise

Exercise is not only good for your physical well-being, but for your mental and emotional health as well.

  • According to Mayo Clinic, regular physical activity can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

  • Group workouts with family and friends can promote bonding, and serve as an accountability motivator.

  • Regular exercise can help you sleep better, which makes you mentally sharper during the day.

  • Being physically fit reduces your chances of getting a number of different diseases, and lowers your risk of heart disease and diabetes.

  • Be sure that you’re ready to begin your new workout regimen before starting. Most insurances cover a wellness exam, so it’s advisable to get one first.

Exercise Your Can Do Together

The whole family can create a group workout routine that keeps everyone on the path to wellness.

  • Take a walk together after dinner and talk about your days.

  • Play a group sport, like basketball, softball, or soccer, or train for a 5K together.

  • Join a biking or hiking club so you can get fit while enjoying the great outdoors.

  • Embark on a holistic journey that includes mental and emotional health via meditative practices, yoga, or tai chi.

Create An Environment For Wellness

Sometimes, establishing a fitness routine includes creating a practical, inviting physical space from which to operate.

  • Turn a spare bedroom into a home gym or meditation room.

  • Clean your house from top to bottom and open the shades to rid the space of negative energy.

  • Invest in gear everyone can use, like a treadmill, exercise bike, balance board, resistance bands or hand weights.

  • If you’re bringing your dog along for workouts, make sure you have a reliable harness that can keep your pet safe and sound while you’re out.

  • Drink a lot of water. You can get everyone their favorite type of water bottle, and even have challenges to see who can meet their hydration needs first.

Creating a wellness routine for the entire household can lead to improved attitudes, better relationships, and healthier bodies! If it has been a while since you worked out, get physicals before embarking on any strenuous new programs.
